Recommend a cool place

CoolingSpots shows for free where it stays cool and shady in the heat. Know a cool place that is still missing? Recommend it, as a private person or as the operator of an institution.

Hot days are increasing, and official heat action plans rely on publicly known cool places. With an entry you help people around you find a place to cool down quickly.

For example:

  • Shaded paths where the dog can walk even in the heat
  • Trips that work with children on hot days
  • Cool places that are easy to reach for older people as well
  • Spots by the water or in the forest to sit out the midday heat

As a community member: suggest a cool place

Anyone can suggest a cool place - for free. There are exactly two conditions:

  • Freely accessible
  • Pleasantly cool in summer

Stays on the map as long as it is right. We look at every entry once a year.

A short assistant asks for what is needed and sends the suggestion. You get a status link, and we check it by hand. No account.

How we check

Community suggestions are editorially checked against the two conditions (freely accessible, pleasantly cool in summer) before they appear as clearly marked community spots.

As an institution: the partner entry

Museums, baths, gardens, municipalities and cafes present their place as a marked partner entry: with their own text, photo, amenities and link. The coolness level of the place stays the measured one.

  • Gold marker on the map, recognisable as a partner
  • Your own text, photo and website link in the place panel
  • Amenities and access, as you state them

Paid, price on request.
Valid
One season, 1 May to 30 September. Ends automatically, no renewal without your consent.

A short assistant asks for what is needed and sends the request. You get a status link, and we reply with the price and the next steps; nothing is concluded on the website.

What your entry looks like

What fits as a partner entry - and what does not

A place fits if, in the heat, it is plausibly pleasantly cool: shade, water, altitude or cool interiors. It does not fit where the appeal is warmth: sauna, thermal baths, solarium or a sunny terrace.

How it is labelled

Partner entries are marked as such and carry the partner's information. An entry without measured coolness carries the note 'not measured'.

Measured coolness stays blue - the cooler, the bigger and darker. Partners are gold, community spots green.

State the access cost honestly

Every entry states the access cost: free, free for locals, or paid. That way nobody reads an offer for locals only as free for everyone.
