Cool places map for local authorities and tourism
CoolingSpots shows for free and without an account where it is cool and shady on hot days. Municipalities, provinces, regions, tourist boards and Pro Loco associations may freely use the map as part of their heat protection - via a QR code on notices and flyers or as an embedded map on their own website.
It complements the cool spaces in your heat action plan with cool places in nature: forests, water, gorges and higher ground.
A good heat-protection strategy means showing people where to spend hot days well - not only for shelter, but also for a shady outing in nature, a change of scene, or to escape an overheated flat for a few hours. This helps especially older people, young children and the chronically ill; some cities already maintain their own maps.
The advantages at a glance
- Free and without an account - no licence fees, no running costs.
- Updated continuously.
- Switzerland, France, Italy, Germany, and Austria - across municipal, regional and national borders.
- Community-backed: flag an error or suggest a place, for every spot.
- Ready to use: QR code for notices, embed code for your website.
- No map project to build - no maintenance needed.
Embed the map
Pick a locality or a whole region - a canton, région, regione or Bundesland - or frame the map yourself. You get both: a QR code for printing and an embed code for your website.
What should the map show?
Enter a locality or region to generate the QR or embed codeWhat the map shows
Everything ticked: the map will automatically show categories added later. With a selection, the embed stays fixed to the chosen categories. At least one category stays selected.
Preview
This is how the map looks on your site. There, visitors can pan, zoom and tap places - here the preview is fixed.
Embed code
Paste this code into your site. The map adapts to your view and to every screen size.
Leaving both fields empty means automatic size: full width of your column, height shaped like the view. That is usually the best choice.

Note for public authorities: CoolingSpots shows natural cool places outdoors as well as publicly accessible indoor spaces and does not replace official heat advice. In extreme heat, follow the guidance of the public health authorities first - avoid the midday sun, drink plenty, look after vulnerable people - and mind the forest-fire risk during droughts.
